“Espejo” – A Solo Exhibiton by Elianel Clinton

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Espejo (Spanish for “mirror”) is a solo exhibition by Elianel Clinton exploring Puerto Rican identity across distance, memory, and return.
Photographed between 2023 and 2025, the series brings together nineteen Puerto Rican subjects whose lives reflect layered experiences of diaspora, migration, queerness, masculinity, and belonging. Through portraiture and family archival photographs, Espejo explores how identity is shaped through inherited memory, movement, and lived experience.
Rooted in a personal return to heritage, Espejo explores how Puerto Rican identity is seen, understood, and carried across generations.
